Kenworthy’s Chambers Immigration Team Ranked Top Tier by Legal 500 in 2024

Kenworthy's Chambers | November 15, 2023

We are delighted to announce that the 2024 Legal 500 rankings have recognised Kenworthy’s Chambers as Tier 1 for Immigration, describing us as a 'go-to set' for immigration and asylum work.

Kenworthy’s are proud to continue our success in the world’s leading legal directory with over one-third of our Member Barristers appearing in their 2024 rankings.

We will cover our eight listed Criminal Barristers in an article dedicated to our Criminal Law Team’s Legal 500 Ranking, and round up the rest of Kenworthy’s Chambers Legal 500 achievements across a further six practice areas, but now is the time to celebrate our Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Team.

Immigration

In their 2024 rankings, Legal 500 declared “Kenworthy’s Chambers attracts praise as ‘a go-to set’ for immigration and asylum work.”

We are over the moon that for 2024, Legal 500 once again recognises our Immigration Team as a Tier 1 set, the highest ranking they bestow.

Legal 500 said: “Kenworthy’s Chambers is very experienced in immigration matters and has a number of experienced barristers.”

A massive congratulations to our five listed Barristers and Immigration Clerks who are celebrated in Legal 500’s 2024 rankings. They are George Brown, Jonathan Greer, Shazia Khan, Gita Patel, Craig Holmes, Courtney Richards, and Daniella Howarth. We will look at each of their achievements in turn.

George Brown

George Brown is the first of our Immigration Barristers who this year was ranked as a Tier 1 Leading Junior, with the Legal 500 remarking he is “highly experienced and wise”. They also noted, “George is a very experienced junior with a vast amount of knowledge on Immigration Law”.

Jonathan Greer

Freshly appointed as an Employment Judge and as a Judge of the First Tier Tribunal in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber, it comes as little surprise that Jonathan Greer maintained his ranking as a Tier 1 Leading Junior in the 2024 Legal 500 rankings. The directory describes Jonathan as “accomplished” and “a very perceptive junior” with “reliable expertise in Immigration and Asylum Law”.

Shazia Khan

“The ‘very sharp’ Shazia Khan has substantial experience in appearing before the Court of Appeal in asylum and immigration cases”, according to Legal 500. They added “Shazia Khan has impressive expertise. She is very personable and will fight for her clients” and awarded her a Tier 1 ranking.

Gita Patel

The Legal 500 recognises “Gita Patel has an excellent track record in handling judicial review proceedings involving vulnerable individuals.” For further evidence read how Gita prevented a victim of sexual exploitation from being re-trafficked by winning her asylum appeal or our Case Study detailing her asylum appeal win for a Salvadoran subjected to extortion and death threats from Barrio 18 gang. The last of our Leading Juniors to be awarded a Tier 1 ranking, “Gita Patel has an understated, common-sense approach to cases. A quietly but devastatingly effective advocate”, according to the leading legal directory.

Craig Holmes

Legal 500 called Craig Holmes an “accomplished, notable name”, awarding him a Tier 2 ranking hot off the heels of being picked out as one to watch, and named a ‘Rising Star’ last year. Legal 500 say “Craig Holmes has a background in Immigration Law and, as a result, has hit the ground running. He is an excellent advocate.”

Immigration Clerks

Last but not least we must mention our experienced Immigration Clerks Courtney Richards and Daniella Howarth, recognised in the legal directory who stated, "Kenworthy's is very approachable. The fees are very affordable for clients and the service provided is very good.” Legal 500 also praised them as individuals, admitting “Courtney Richards and Daniella Howarth are both extremely responsive and offer a first-rate service.”
