Preparing Witness Statements

Online Seminar | February 22, 2024 | 4:00 PM

Preparing Witness Statements is a free CPD training course taking place on Thursday 22nd of February 2024 from 4 pm – 5 pm, hosted by Civil Litigation and Personal Injury expert Peter Quegan. The sign-up form is at the bottom of this page.

Who is this seminar for?

This seminar is suitable for any litigator in civil cases.

What does this seminar cover?

Trials are won and lost on statement evidence so witness statements are the most important documents in a case. This seminar will guide Civil Litigators through the formal requirements of witness statements, teaching you everything you need to know about witness statements, including how to structure them, when to prepare them, and what to include and what not to include!

An example of what not to include in road traffic accidents (RTAs) is the term ‘came from nowhere’. Instead, consider recording which direction the vehicle drove off AFTER the accident, as this is often an indicator of an intended route!

This seminar also covers the pitfalls of procuring procedural evidence, tips on common exhibits and the use of photographs.

What will I learn?

The ability to prepare a compliant, convincing statement without committing professional negligence.

How to accurately prepare key details in statements about road traffic accidents such as the speed, distance, and time.

Top tips for formatting and translating your witness statements.

Best practice when it comes to language in witness statements. How to be firm, persuasive, and the frequently used phrases to avoid!
