This seminar looks at accommodation claims in detail, including the recent ruling in Swift V Carpenter. 

Personal Injury Barrister Haroon Rashid regularly has clients who have to temporarily convert their downstairs living room into a bedroom. The problem with converting the downstairs living room into a bedroom is that it gives little privacy and can impose a burden upon the entire family. It is seldom that the downstairs will have adequate washing facilities or wheelchair access and impromptu conversions will not have the special aids and equipment needed to help the injured family member around the house.

In legal terms, the claimant is entitled to recover the costs of adapting their accommodation or making an extension to their existing property, or moving to a new home, provided they can establish that there is a reasonable need for such changes and the costs are reasonable.
