Kenworthy’s Chambers Cricket Sixes Social

Kenworthy's Chambers | July 19, 2024
The Clerks and Barristers of Kenworthy’s Chambers headed to Sixes Manchester for a cricket-themed team building social – read this blog to learn more.

Friday after work, the support staff, Clerks, and Barristers of Kenworthy’s Chambers took a short walk over the River Irwell, past the Cathedral to Sixes Manchester, by The Corn Exchange to play some cricket!

The first-of-its-kind sporty social saw our Clerks put down the phones and pick up cricket bats as they left the clerking room behind and stepped up to the crease inside some batting nets to test their skills against a series of balls, bowled by a virtual bowler!

The aim of Sixes Social Cricket is to register the highest score possible by striking numbered targets around the nets, as other guests enjoy food and drink and cheer on the high-octane action from the sides while keeping an eye on the overall leaderboard.

Nick Roxborough was the first to step up to the crease

First up to bat were two of our newly qualified Barristers, Nick Roxborough and Matthew Todd, who were awarded tenancies after completing their pupillage at Kenworthy’s Chambers.

The Criminal Law experts competed with our Criminal Clerks Paul Mander and Greg Highton, who they are used to working closely with – but when the final scores were totted up it was the Clerks who came out on top!

Paul Mander registering a high score

Senior Criminal Clerk Paul Mander said, “It was a great evening at Sixes Social Cricket. With all the talent on display, I think we need to get a Chambers cricket team going!”

Greg Highton prepares to bat

Coming in third, just behind Paul, Criminal Clerk Greg Highton said, “I had a good time! It was great to see the Barristers outside of Court, especially ones I work with like Tara Riley, Nick and Matthew.”

Maria Rushworth putting in a winning performance

Congratulations to Practice Manager Maria Rushworth, who used all her experience in amassing an impressive 84 runs to finish right at the top of the leaderboard above attending Barristers Daniel Brassington, Margaret McDonald, and Sarah Johnson, as well as Clerks Mike Jones, AJ, and Daniella Howarth.
