Joannah Webster came to the Bar the 'long way round' having enjoyed a successful career as an Accident and Emergency Nursing Sister for ten years, and as a nurse for fifteen years. In conjunction to her career as a Nursing Sister Joannah successfully completed her Common Professional Exams with Commendation, her LLM in Medical Law and Ethics with Merit and was awarded a Very Competent in her BVC.
Joannah is developing a regulatory practice and is ideally suited to represent healthcare professionals at Fitness to Practice Tribunals. In addition during pupillage Joannah benefited from the guidance of Christopher Perry who has extensive experience in Coronial Law. Joannah has a special interest in inquest work, in particular where Trusts are facing a potential finding of Neglect secondary to systemic failures within the organisation.
Joannah has gained substantial experience in personal injury matters relating to road traffic accidents, Occupier's liability, Employers liability and actions against Highways Authorities, in addition to advising on credit hire litigation.
Interests Outside of Law:
In her spare time Joannah enjoys spending time with her family in North Wales which is an ideal place to relax, and has inspired her passion for creative writing. Joannah has already finished her debut novel and has a second storyline simmering in the background!
Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence
Joannah has experience in advising on potential clinical negligence claims and is able to draw upon her extensive nursing and medical knowledge to consider the initial merits of a case and make recommendations as to the appropriate experts to instruct. Joannah was on the NMC register as an Adult Nurse and subsequently understands best practice in accident and emergency care. In addition she holds a certificate of higher education in Emergency care of Children and therefore has unique knowledge and understanding of the expected standard of Emergency care for both adults and children alike.
Joannah has experience representing Claimant's in Mediation, including complex clinical negligence matters.
She was recently successful in recovering damages in a birth injury claim following a successful mediation session. Such cases require a client centred approach so that all parties are able to engage in the process in a respectful way that facilitates resolution.
Having a wealth of hands on medical experience at her fingertips; she is not afraid of accepting challenging cases or asking difficult questions.
