Colette Snape is a Barrister at Kenworthy’s Chambers who specialises in

Colette Snape accumulated a lot of experience in the legal sector before joining Kenworthy’s Chambers.

She marshalled a District Judge at Preston Combined Court Centre. She worked as a Social Welfare Paralegal at Kirklees Citizens Advice and Law Centre where she assisted the Housing Team, the Community Care Court of Protection Team, and was responsible for triaging new enquiries. She interned at Arizona Capital Representation Project (ACRP) through the charity Reprieve where she helped draft witness statements and carried out research and administration tasks. Colette Snape also spent a year working as a Paralegal at a Family Law firm that specialised in international child abduction, as well as public and private child law proceedings.

In addition to this work experience, Colette Snape has an LLM in Human Rights Law from Queen Mary University of London, during which she studied International Asylum Law. She has also mooted at the European Court of Human Rights (ELSA) and shadowed numerous Counsel across the Northern Circuit.

Colette Snape is also a trained Telephone Advisor for IPSEA (Independent Provider of Special Education Advice), an organisation which provides parents and young people advice regarding EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).

Family and Finance

Colette Snape represents parents and other family members in all areas of Family Law including Private Law Children Act, Public Law Children Act, divorce, and recovery and preservation of assets.

She can advise clients on domestic violence injunctions, family mediation, and property disputes.

As a Family Barrister Colette Snape has taken on a range of cases including finances on divorce, TOLATA, care proceedings and private family law cases attending family courts all over the Northwest. She is happy to travel to Carlisle, Workington, Barrow, Lancashire and Manchester.

During her pupillage Family and Finance Barrister Colette Snape attended final hearings in both private and public law proceedings. Under the supervision of the Head of the Family and Finance Team, Paul Im Thurn, she learned the procedural aspects within different areas of Family Law and mastered how to provide a quality service to the lay client.

Court of Protection

Colette Snape is able to represent people with care needs and mental capacity issues and provide them with advice in relation to associated matters in the Court of Protection.

As a Court of Protection Barrister, Colette Snape can advise clients on personal welfare applications, protection of vulnerable adults and best interest decisions.

Colette Snape has experience in mental capacity work, having taken on internships with Court of Protection Solicitors. She also studied the Mental Capacity Act 2005 during her LLM in Human Rights Law. Colette Snape is therefore able to take on a range of cases in the Court of Protection, including deprivation of liberty safeguards and cases involving disputes over capacity.

With experience of Community Care cases from her time as a Paralegal, Colette Snape is able to take on judicial review cases in this area.
