Experience:
Shysta practices Civil and Immigration law. Whilst working as a Generalist Adviser for the Citizens Advice Bureau, she gained experience in housing, employment, benefit, debt, DLA, immigration and family cases, as well as presenting cases to the tribunal. Shysta has been certified under the National Association of CAB (NACAB). She was awarded a University Prize at Undergraduate level and received the 'Mentee of the Year' award. During the BVC she was awarded the Sir Thomas BVC Scholarship by Lincoln's Inn and was also a finalist in the UK Asian Young Achievers. In addition to this, she has gained a Distinction in a Diploma in Advice Work & Law and in Islamic & Cultural Studies & Urdu.
Shysta speaks Punjabi and Urdu and is a member of the Association of Muslim Lawyers. Shysta can translate documents from Urdu and Punjabi into English and is happy to conduct interviews in these languages.
Civil practice:
Shysta presently enjoys a largely Civil/Common law practice, with a particular emphasis on personal injury litigation, including road traffic accidents, employers liability, low velocity, holiday claims abroad and highway/occupiers liability, including MIB and fraudulent claims. She acts for both claimants and defendants and her work also encompasses advising on liability and quantum of damages as well as representation at Court. Shysta also undertakes cases involving general contract work, including debt, mortgage and possession heearings. Shysta is a member of the Personal Injuries Bar (PLBA).
She has been appointed as Grade C Counsel and appears on the Attorney General List of Prosecution Advocate for HM Customs and Excise, Inland Revenue and the DTI. She has previously spent a period of secondment with HM Customs and Excise; where her time was spent on carousel VAT fraud cases.
