Criminal Law

During his 30 years in Silk, Ben has prosecuted and defended numerous high-profile criminal cases. He has led over 200 murder cases, many of them gangland shootings.

Criminal Barrister Benjamin Nolan has experience handling cases with international cooperation elements. Examples include extradition and the use of evidence obtained abroad thanks to ‘letters of request’ and The Crime (International Cooperation) Act 2003 and its statutory predecessors.

He has considerable experience in drugs smuggling cases involving massive importations into the UK and alleged drug trafficking offences overseas.

Benjamin Nolan is considered a skilled cross-examiner of expert witnesses, particularly medical experts, and his skills have been deployed in alleged child-killing cases (involving "shaken baby syndrome" abuse) and in trials involving psychiatric issues. Benjamin Nolan has also been invited to review the medico-legal element of reference works on forensic psychiatry.

He also has considerable expertise in food safety scandals.

Benjamin Nolan has developed a particular interest in food safety fraud cases and is instructed to advise on the regulatory aspects of food safety and the enforcement of food safety standards.
