Bruce Henry Secures Compensation for Wirral Midwife Victim to Indirect Sex Discrimination Against her Former Employer

by Kenworthy's Chambers 06/09/2018

Following a trial at Liverpool Employment Tribunal, Bruce Henry instructed by Thompsons Solicitors, successfully represented a Wirral Midwife who was subjected to indirect sex discrimination from her former employer, the tribunal awarded £5,000 to Ms Leigh-Poole, a member of the Royal College of Midwives, in compensation for her ordeal.

The tribunal heard how Ms Leigh-Poole was on maternity leave whilst her job faced the risk of redundancy and her employer to be made aware of potential positions she could apply for on her return to the organisation; despite her written request to be made aware of potential jobs. The respondent, One-to-One Midwives North West had applied a policy of only advertising the available roles on their own intranet, to which is not accessible to employees on maternity leave.

The Royal College of Midwives reports further here.
