Experience

Bill joined Chambers in 2011 with almost 25 years prosecution experience for the CPS. 

As a Crown Advocate he has prosecuted trials for:

  • Wounding with Intent and lesser assaults
  • Public Order offences
  • Dangerous Driving
  • Breach of Protective Orders
  • Robbery
  • Burglary
  • Possession of Class A Drugs with Intent
  • Fraud

He also has many years experience of prosecuting drink/drive cases.

He prosecuted Operation Rosebud from pre-charge to conviction and sentence at Crown Court (Class A Drugs, Burglary and Handling).

As Divisional Crown Prosecutor for Bolton and Wigan he was lead lawyer for Operation Waddington (Class A Drugs and Firearms) and Operation Ore (Child Internet Abuse) amongst many others.

Along side prosecution, Bill also Defends which solicitors find appealing given his thorough understanding into both sides of the profession.

He also appeared at the Court of Appeal in sentencing and conviction cases.

Interests Outside the Law:

Bill is a keen supporter of Manchester City, Wigan Warriors and a fan of Test Cricket.

  • R v Leicester (2016) - Defended hairdresser involved in perverting the course of justice, after giving false witness statement to help a decorated policeman's acquittal of a shoplifting and assault charge. Defendant received suspended sentence and unpaid work. Press coverage
  • R v Otoo & Others (Operation Rosebud) : Successful prosecution of over 40 defendants and over 200 offences of Class A Drugs Supply, Robbery and Burglary from pre-charge to conviction at the Crown Court.  Operation Rosebud was a major covert intelligence-led and targeted operation across South Manchester.  Awarded Chief Superintendent's Commendation.
  • R v Webb & Others (Operation Waddington)
  • R v McNulty & Others (Operation Ore)
  • R v Miah : Successful prosecution for offences of possession of ammunition
  • R v Waheed & Others : Successful prosecution of robbery based upon expert evidence on the impact of a single blood spot
  • R v McNulty & Others : Successful prosecution of, amongst others, a Police Officer for making and possessing images of child internet abuse.  This involved international evidence gathering and cross-border enforcement
  • R v Cristiano Ronaldo : Speeding/failing to conform to a traffic signal.  Represented by notable solicitors, convicted.
  • R v Roque Santa Cruz : Section 172 Notice/speeding, convicted
